Farewell...for now

Dearest readers,

Today I was reading a very helpful article on one of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, about really planning, and being intentional when starting a blog. I have been thinking about this for a while, and I have decided to take some time to really focus on what I would like this blog to look like. There are many things I need to think through, including the design, and content of the blog. I really love sharing my love of scrapping, and crafting, but I also have a strong passion for food, and nature. When I started J Rose Crafts in 2009, I originally wanted this blog to be a showcase of my cards, but it has turned away from that to a variety of topics, and I feel like the blog does not have a focus or real purpose.

The other thing I need to figure out is a set schedule. I currently work full time at a national wildlife refuge in Oregon, and also work for the Oregon Natural Resources Education Program as a facilitator. In addition to this, I have a lively (almost) 2 year old, and a sweet husband who I would like to spend more time with.  It has been hard keeping up, and feeling good about how often I am posting, and the quality, so I have decided to step away for now until I can sort out what I really want Design by J Rose to look like, and how to manage my time wisely, while putting out the best stuff possible for my readers!

I appreciate all your support, and for reading. You can always find me on facebook or pinterest. You can also email me: jrosecrafts@gmail.com for updates or things you would like to see on the blog or to say hi! :)

 Thanks again!

13 Goals for 2013

Hey there! Hope you are doing well. The weather has already changed to rain, and it is really windy out right now. Wah wah. But I wanted to share my list of things I would like to accomplish this year. I have been told that 2013 is the year of optimism, and I am ready to take the opportunity to cease the moment.

I have never really had "resolutions", because I have never thought about making any. This year I have a few things I would like to do so I am writing them down. Many of them are very broad, some may seem a little silly, but I am a list maker so even the smallest goal is written! Call them resolutions if you would like. I am sticking with the word "goals".

13 Goals for 2013

1. Spend more time outdoors with my family.
2. Start and finish the owl puzzle that I have never opened.
3. Complete the pillow project for my mom, and sign up for a beading class.
4. Take at least 5 minutes of my day to just sit, and relax.
5. Submit at least one piece of work to a scrapbook/card making magazine.
6. Reorganize the guest room, and finish painting the house.
7. PLAY! with baby B (who is no longer a baby so I probably should say little B?)
8. Press leaves and flowers, and use them in my craft projects. Finish a set of 5 cards and give them away.
9. Run more. Sign up for at least one local race.
10. Scrap every photo and keepsake from years past. Start a scrap a photo or two a month habit.
11. Tell my friends and family how much them mean to me more often! Write. Call. Visit.
12. Try one new recipe a month. Cook more.
13. Keep the house clean by making a set schedule.
14. Get the kitchen organized, and get hardware for the cabinets.

There you have it. My list for the year. I am happy with it, and I think that the items above are very achievable . Now is the time to start. No better time then now.

Do you have any goals for this new year?

I saw this wonderful "to-do" list on facebook this morning, and I thought it was brilliant.

Have a wonderful day. Hugs!

Happy 2013!

Can you believe it is already a brand new year? This is crazy to me. It is as if Oct/Nov/Dec (especially) did not happen. Hope ya'll had a great holidays! Our Christmas was wonderful, but flew by in a flash. I realized that I need to take every opportunity to enjoy all the little moments this year so that is my one little word for 2013. Taking the opportunity to slow down. The opportunity to experience something new. The opportunity to push myself. The opportunity to do my best, and be the best women I can be. Inside and out. I finished my first scrap page for the year and it is all about this word: opportunity. I will post some photos once I can get some decent light (thank you weather!). But for now here are a few things I am really enjoying. Hope you enjoy as well.

Current favorites.

Blog: Dear Lizzy. Not only is Elizabeth Kartchner the designer behind the super fun Dear Lizzy collection from American Crafts, but her blog is beautiful (as is she). I love reading a blog that makes me feel like I am a friend of the blogger, and the wonderful photos of her scrapbooking doesn't hurt either... :)

DIY paper heart garland

DIY: Pink and Gold Paper Heart Garland from Ellinee. Tutorial here.
This is just too sweet.

Recipe to try: Chicken Noodle Soup from the Londoner. Yum. I could eat soup all day every day if I could during these cold months.

Have a blessed day! Hugs.
